Corel revolutionized the graphic design industry when it introduced CorelDRAW in 1989. Today, the Company continues to lead the market with its award-winning graphics and productivity software. Corel is also at the forefront of the digital media revolution, delivering the industry's broadest and most innovative portfolio of photo, video and DVD software.

Corel has a community of more than 100 million active users in over 75 countries, and a well-established network of international resellers, retailers, original equipment manufacturers, online providers and Corel's global Web sites. The Company's headquarters are located in Ottawa, Canada, with major offices in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Taiwan, China and Japan.

Corel Draw:
CorelDRAW Graphics Suite is an impressive collection of powerful design software that can tackle all sorts of design jobs. Included in the package are: CorelDRAW, the main application for vector design and layout; Corel PHOTO-PAINT, for editing and retouching photos, Corel CAPTURE, for screengrabs; ConceptShare, a collaboration service; and the Bitstream Font Navigator. There are also a bevy of smaller utilities such as a bar-code wizard and an app for helping users optimize two-sided printouts.

With a suite that includes that many programs and features, it's essential to have solid in-program help, and CorelDRAW is loaded with dynamic hints, video product tours, and hands-on project tutorials that will have you designing elements in no time. Expert advice from professional designers walks users through specific practices such as airbrushing logos and creating textile patterns.

Features:

  • Quickstart - the ability to open recent documents, with a preview of the page, or create a new document from a blank page or template
  • What's New - a breakdown of new features linking through to the What's New video
  • Learning tools - a link through to the tutorials on the DVD
  • Gallery - a series of different Corel generated images with links through to the artists who made them
  • Updates - a quick view to see what's new

The other significant application in CorelDRAW Graphics is Photo-Paint. Almost abandoned in version X3 of the suite, this bitmap-editing application has some new features, including support for the RAW camera format and interactive histograms for previewing image adjustments.

Corel Paintshop Photo Pro:
Corel Paint Shop Photo Pro provides the average photo editor with a much more user-friendly alternative to Adobe Photoshop.  It's high functioning photo editing software that's both easy to use and full of features. Usually, a program with a lot of features is far from easy to use, but that's not the case here. Corel decided to dedicate itself to bringing the most user-friendly products possible for the same price their competitors charge.

Features:

  • Makeover Tools: thinify, whiten eyes and teeth, smooth wrinkles, add a tan, and remove blemishes
  • Change the color of a single object
  • Erase backgrounds but maintain overlapping fine details like a strand of hair
  • Go Retro: Use the Time Machine to make photos look like they were taken from the 1800’s through the 1960’s. You’ll get an informative description of photographic processes at each point on the time line.
  • Picture Tubes: Add graphic elements to your photos. The image library is a mixed bag, try the photo images. Click away—objects in the tube vary with each click. Makeup: lipstick, mascara, blush … what’s next? Easily change position and size.
  • Smart Carver: Save important parts of your photo while cutting out parts you don't want.
  • Vibrancy: Boost color in less saturated parts of an image without significantly altering skin tones.
  • Object Extractor: Isolate objects to be copied to a new background or to have a new background pasted behind it.
  • On-Image Text Editing: Add text direct in the image window and adjust its font, color, placement, position, size and wrapping of the text in the context of the image.

New to this version is improved photo organization and performance and support for additional RAW formats, HD video, Windows 7 and additional creative project options. They added new tools like multi-photo editing, Express Lab, Smart Carver, Vibrancy, Object Extractor and On-Image Text Editing.

It's clear that PaintShop Pro is aimed at enthusiast-level photographers who prefer a clean, all-in-one app to not just edit but also process their photos onto a disc, an online album, or a photo project like a slideshow. Pros who prefer to get into the nitty gritty details of image editing should look elsewhere, but others would benefit from downloading PaintShop Pro's trial software.

There is only one drawback to PaintShop Photo Pro X3 that Corel continues to neglect and that is making a native app of it for the Mac. Overall it works fine for me.

It helped me a lot.

We have used both Illustrator by Adobe and the CorelDraw suites and feel that the Corel package is superior without question. Easier to use, faster, creates much smaller equivilent files sizes, far less system memory to operate.

Extremely powerful tools for illustration Very easy to navigate We believe better than the Adobe products for many reasons. Corel Paintshop Photo Pro is as much as anyone would need to photo edit. A close match for Photoshop. We have used them both but we now perfer Corel Paintshop Photo Pro. Easier to use.

Love the software and use it for just about every aspect of my business

OK, been using Corel since it first came out...many years ago and have owned just about every version released. Purchased X5 Suite a few months ago and was again impressed with features and power. Love the software and use it for just about every aspect of my business advertising from creating our own ad work to designing vinyl graphics for banners. We even use it for designing the iron-on vinyl graphics for team jerseys and such, then export the file to our vinyl cutting software. When X5 Premium Suite was released I thought WOW...now I can work all in one graphics suite instead of jumping from Corel Draw to Pinnacle Premium 14, to Dreamweaver or Expression 4 to PhotoShop (sorry Corel, but Photoshop CS5 really is killer). So I jumped on the upgrade without even checking out the software first...why should I have worried, I have loved everything Corel has produced for more than a decade now and have always used Corel Draw.
